2018 Poetry Out Loud Winner Announced!

Chloe DePledge, of Glacier High School, wins First Place at Poetry Out Loud Madera County Finals Competition,

Advances to State Finals Competition in Sacramento 


 On Saturday, February 10th, Madera County Arts Council hosted the Madera County Finals Competition for Poetry Out Loud at Circle Gallery. Students from Madera High SchoolMadera South High School, Liberty High School, Glacier High School and Voyager Secondary School competed in two rounds. Chloe DePledge, of Glacier High School, won the First Place prize of $150 with her impassioned recitations of “Love (III)” by George Herbert and “Be Music, Night” by Kenneth Patchen. She will represent Madera County at the State Finals Competition in Sacramento on March 18th and 19th. Christopher Linares of Madera High School won the Second Place Prize of $75 and Mei Chen of Liberty High School won the Third Place Prize of $50.

 
 
About the Poetry Out Loud Competition:
The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation have partnered with the California Arts Council to support 2018 Poetry Out Loud, a FREE high school program which encourages the nation’s youth to learn about great poetry through memorization and recitation. This dynamic program helps high school students master public speaking skills, build self-confidence, learn about their literary heritage, and compete for more than $100,000 in awards. 

The Madera County Finals Competition was made possible by our local sponsor Sierra Tel, our state sponsor California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Poetry Out Loud County Finals

On Saturday, February 10th, 2018 at 1:00 p.m., Madera County Arts Council will be hosting the Madera County Finals Competition for Poetry Out Loud at Circle Gallery, located at 1653 N. Schnoor, Suite 113, Madera, CA 93637. Students from Madera High School, Madera South High School, Liberty High School, Glacier High School and Voyager Secondary School will be competing, the winner will move on to the state finals competition in Sacramento!

POSITION: Arts Education Program Manager

 

Description: We are looking for someone who is passionate about the Arts and Children’s Education to join our team as our Arts Education Program Manager! This position is responsible for implementing and managing our education programs, such as the Artist in Schools Programs, Poetry Out Loud Competition and distribution of Scholarships. The ideal candidate is organized, tech savvy, ambitious and motivated to make a difference in our community.

 

Duties:

  • Artists In Schools Program: Artist Management, Materials Inventory Management, Communication Liaison, Invoicing and Budgeting.

  • Event planning for the annual Poetry Out Loud competition.

  • Display of student art in government & library displays

  • Coordinate Kids Art Booth at the annual Pomegranate Festival

  • Disseminate scholarship information and distribute funds

  • Assist in grant writing

  • Provide publicity information to Publicity Manager

  • Report directly to the Executive Director

 

Requirements:

  • 20 hours per week (we offer flexibility with scheduling)

  • Experience working in performing and/or visual arts

  • Experience in children’s art education

  • Must be organized, timely and able to prioritize

  • Able to use e-mail, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Able to work collaboratively and independently

  • Creative Problem Solving

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education, Fine Arts or Art History a plus

 

Compensation: Determined by Experience and Education of Applicant
